Cambridge University Hospitals completes first phase of £107m IT handover

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) has completed the handover of its IT infrastructure management to Novosco in the first phase of a multi-million-pound contract.

CUH selected cloud provider Novosco to manage its IT infrastructure in June 2018 as part of a £107 million, seven-year agreement.

Under the contract, Novosco is responsible for installing new secure platforms for application hosting, updating end-user computing devices and print solutions, and installing resilient and reliable networks.

Novosco has now taken over the management and support of CUH’s IT systems and become the trust’s primary IT infrastructure service and support supplier.

Dr Afzal Chaudhry, CUH director of digital and chief clinical information officer, said: “As one of the most digitally mature NHS trusts in the country, we continuously strive to embrace advancements in technology to support the provision of high-quality patient care.

“Our partnership with Novosco will enable us to further develop and extend the capabilities of our digital services over the years to come, bringing further benefits to our patients and to our hospital staff and healthcare partners.”

CUH is one of the 16 Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) trusts selected by NHS England for its digital excellence and maturity.

Novosco will provide a range of services to support CUH’s eHospital digital maturity programme and its electronic patient record system, Epic.

Hewlett Packard was selected to provide the IT infrastructure for the trust’s £200m eHospital programme in 2013, running into deployment issues when the Epic EPR went live in October the following year.

John Lennon, Novosco managing director, said: “We’re extremely pleased to have delivered operational service commencement on schedule and within budget, taking us into the second stage of the contract and the delivery of vital IT managed services.

“We look forward to working closely with the CUH team to support them by providing world-class IT services that will help the trust continue to deliver sustainable, efficient and effective care for its patients at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie maternity hospital.”
