Co-op app will allows customers to manage repeat prescriptions

Supermarket Co-op has appointed a mobile technology company to help support the development of its new health app.

Apadmi has been tasked with helping to manage Co-op Health, an app which helps people manage their repeat prescriptions.

Customers can use the app by asking their doctor for their unique code for NHS online services which they can then put into the app to set up an account.

Once an account has been created, customers will then be able to see repeat prescriptions, order the medications they need and choose where they want them delivered.

Their GP checks the order and the customer is alerted when the order has been approved. Customers can also receive updates on their order via email or through the app.

Tim Davies, managing director of Co-op Health commented: “It’s great to be working with Apadmi as Co-op launches back into Health, with the introduction of our app.

‘’The pharmacy sector is at the start of a digital revolution and we’re excited for what’s to come, as people increasingly look for more flexibility and convenience in accessing their medication. The app is just the start for our health business.’’

The technology behind the app appears to have come off the back of the Co-op’s aquistion of Dimec – a start up which had developed system which can link a patient’s phone directly to their NHS GP and pharmacy and then letting them pick where to collect medicines from at the touch of a button.
